Tegaderm Bandage Aftercare

What you'll need:

• Anti bacterial soap

• Warm running water

• White unscented healing lotion or Aquaphor

Tegaderm is a clear, waterproof, anti-microbial medical grade bandage. While wearing the bandage you can shower and go throughout your normal day, without the worry of washing it consistently. It also acts as a barrier to outside bacteria which prevents infection and speeds healing time. The tattoo will heal itself underneath the bandage within three days. On the third day take the bandage off under warm running water, peeling it off slowly, do not rip it off quickly. Immediately after removing the bandage wash the tattoo thoroughly with warm water and antibacterial soap. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel and apply any healing lotion or Aquaphor to it. Continue moisturizing the tattoo 2-3 times a day for the next 2 weeks.

Very Helpful Hints:

Tegaderm is clear and tattoos do bleed and weep. Come the 2nd day of wearing the Tegaderm it may fill up with fluids. Don't be alarmed this is normal. If it bothers you, take two fingers and a paper towel to push some the fluids out the bandage. If the bandage comes off before the 2nd or third day refer to our standard bandage aftercare instruction sheet.

Avoid the ocean, pools and sun tanning for the next week or so. Be sure to apply sunscreen once the tattoo is completely healed. Sunscreen will preserve your skin and keep your tattoo looking bright and solid. Standard Bandage Aftercare

What you’ll need:

Mild fragrance-free soap

Any fragrance free healing lotion. We recommend:

• Aquaphor Healing Ointment (made by Eucerin)

• Curel fragrance-free lotion

These items generally available at your local pharmacy

Healing Instructions:

Leave your bandage on for at least 3 hours, overnight is fine. Wash your hands before you remove it. Wash your tattoo in warm water, gently but thoroughly, with a mild fragrance-free soap (antibacterial is ok but not necessary). Repeat once or twice, and then pat it dry with a fresh paper towel. Do not re-bandage it, and make sure you wear clean, loose clothing over it for the first day or two, the ink may seep out and stain your clothes, so don't wear something you care about too much. Try to sleep on clean sheets. Be conscious of your surroundings, e.g. dirty couch cushions, bus benches, etc. With clean hands, wash it 2 times a day for the first week with soap and water. 24 hours after getting your tattoo, you can begin applying a very thin layer of fragrance free healing lotion to the area after cleaning. Again, do not rebandage it. Use A fragrance free healing lotion for four days after every time you wash, after that you can switch to the any ordinary lotion. Apply whenever your tattoo feels dry or itchy. Don't pick at scabs or scratch with your fingernails.

For the first 2 weeks, keep your tattoo out of the sun. No swimming at all and keep showers as short as you can. Baths are not recommended. After your tattoo is healed, you can start using sunscreen. Remember, UV rays damage your skin, which contains your tattoo. Be nice to your skin and it will be nice to your tattoo. If you want to make sure it still looks as bright and defined as it does now in 5, 10 or 50 yrs, ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.

Healing times vary from person to person, but you can expect initial healing time to take around 2 weeks, it will take about a month for your tattoo to heal completely. If at any time you have questions, don't hesitate to call the shop 714-8760-0805.
